QPR definitely seem to be going places after it was revealed that Didier Drogba has emerged as a potential transfer target for the club in the January transfer window or at least in the summer.
Didier Drogba, who arrived at Chelsea in a £ 24 million deal in 2004, is widely regarded to be one of the best strikers in the Premier League and indeed in Europe. However, this contract with Chelsea is coming to an end this season. He has been linked with a move to China, where he is expected to be offered a contract worth around £ 400,000-a-week. Nicolas Anelka recently moved to China on a similar kind of contract.
However, it is thought that Didier Drogba will want to spend at least a few years at top-level football before moving to China or the United States. QPR represents an ideal opportunity for the big Ivorian, who will be turning 34 in March. It is one of the main reasons for Chelsea to be reluctant when it comes to offering a two-year contract as demanded by the striker. It is thought that Chelsea are willing to offer only one year for the striker. QPR are monitoring the situation closely so as to pounce for the hitman, who regularly gets around 20 goals a season.
Even though QPR will not be able to match the wages provided by Chinese clubs, they will be able to offer the ability for Drogba to play in the Premier League as the first choice. Tony Fernandes has recently promised that funds will be available for new manager Mark Hughes to work in the January transfer window. It has been rumoured that as much as £ 20 million will be made available to Mark Hughes for signings this transfer window alone.
