Supporters and fans of Ivory Coast are hoping that Didier Drogba does not have any serious injuries or concerns as the former Chelsea forward left a training session early as his nation has to play their opening World Cup match by playing against Japan on June 15.
The influence and importance that Drogba has for his nation Ivory Coast is extremely high as the player of Galatasaray is the captain and the top goal-scorer for his nation but the coach of Ivory Coast, Sabri Lamouchi mentioned that Drogba does not have a guaranteed spot in his starting XI lineup.
‘’There is no favoritism here. Before me, nobody had dared put Didier or Kolo Toure on the bench. I did it against Tunisia and we won 3-0. It was not to assert my power, but just to show that at certain moments, status is not enough. Some said that I was brave, others that I was crazy. This is certainly proof that I am under no pressure to pick certain names’’ Lamouchi revealed.
‘I really believe we can get into the last 16. This is our objective. I’m not going on holiday with 23 friends. Lamouchi added on.
Ivory Coast along with Portugal will have to wait a few days before their opening World Cup match to see the condition of their star player and announce if whether or not they will be able to perform. Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo limped off of the training session of his team as well and now the same thing has happened with Didier Drogba although neither of them seems to have picked up a really serious injury and both are expected to play their respective opening matches.
