Premier League legend Didier Drogba is set to cause an upset on Saturday when Phoenix Rising FC face Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday.
Real Monarchs have a standing nine game victory streak which the former Chelsea striker is expected to end when they meet.
The striker and part owner of Phoenix, Drogba has made instant impact in the USL. The Ivorian, who has scored over 250 career goals for club and country, has already scored three goals and has one assist in just two games in the lower division of American club football. He produced the incredible numbers in the new adventure when Phoenix played Vancouver and Swope Park, so he is likely to do something similar against the Monarchs.
The 39-year old decided against retirement even in his relatively advanced age for football after his spell with LA Galaxy in the MLS. He is a two time Chelsea star after previous success playing in the Ligue 1. He has experience playing in Africa, China and Turkey as well.
The Monarchs have a 12-1-0 sterling record and they seek its continuance but they would have to get past Drogba and his teammates. Real Monarchs had just 10 wins last season but they have already exceeded that this term. They defeated Phoenix earlier this year 2-0 as Chandler Hoffman and Omar Holness netted.
It would be good pay back if Drogbaor others can score when they meet this time. They would end their unbeaten run and get three points for keep. The game promises excitement already!
