Sarr signed for Chelsea as a free agent last summer after his contract with French team OGC Nice ran out at the end of the penultimate league season. In his first interview as a Chelsea player, the young defender listed several Blues legend as the players he wanted to emulate as a young footballer.

The 22-year-old defender said he started out as a striker until 13 or 14 before adding that Didier Drogba was his boyhood hero as a young attacker. Apart from Didier Drogba, Sarr also mentioned the likes of John Terry, Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard as his heroes. His dad loved Marcel Desailly and he would tell him about the former Chelsea and AC Milan centre back.

Sarr didn’t settle into his new surroundings at Chelsea before he was farmed out on loan to FC Porto in Portugal where he made 19 appearances in all competitions. The Chelsea player spent the whole of last season at FC Porto. He was even sent to the B team at some stage last season.

The Chelsea defender produced one of his best performances in an FC Porto shirt when he shackled Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League when his team met Juventus at the round of 16 stage last season. He kept Ronaldo at bay in the second leg as FC Porto knocked out the Italians via the away goals rule. FC Porto defeated Juventus at home by a lone goal in the first leg before suffering a 3-2 defeat after extra time in the second leg in Turin to progress into the quarterfinals where they were eliminated by his parent club Chelsea.
