Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy received high praise from club legend Didier Drogba after he produced one of the best goalkeeping performances in the Premier League this season to secure three points for his team in the West London Derby at Brentford last weekend.
Mendy was the difference between the two teams as Chelsea secured a 1-0 victory at the home of Brentford courtesy the goal fromin-form England international Ben Chilwell at the end of the first half.
Senegalese shot stopper Mendy has been instrumental for Chelsea since the West London giants paid around £24m to secure his signature. The Blues signed Mendy from Rennes in the French top flight. He was a major part of the Chelsea team on the way to winning the Champions League title last season. Chelsea won the competition for only the second time in their history by beating fellow Premier League team Manchester City in the final. Mendy kept a clean sheet in the last two Chelsea game on the way to the Champions League win.
Mendy has now kept a total of 21 clean sheets in 39 Premier League games since his transfer from Rennes at the start of last season. He has not conceded a goal in each of his last two games in the league and that run has helped his team to the top of the table. In those two games, Chelsea beat fellow London side Brentford by a lone goal away from home as revealed earlier and then thumped bottom team Norwich City 7-0 at home.
